A Personal reflection on prayer

prayer-at-dawn     I don’t know about you but sometimes it’s good to think back on prayer and how it has played a role in your life.  I suspect that for many of us our prayer life started prior to us having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  I can remember the times when I was afraid or when I was struggling with the fact of my fathers leaving and crying out to the father, asking why?  Perhaps some of us prayed for something ridiculous or miraculous, I know that I did.  However, when I became a believer in Jesus, prayer became a practice in my life, a way of communicating with the father.

As disciples, we follow Christ’s example and ask of the father in Jesus name.  Sometimes prayer becomes just a routine that we do as a christian.  We say to ourselves, I think I should pray but what does that mean exactly.  Sometimes prayer is something we do because either I have some need or someone else does.  There are times when our prayers are full of thanksgiving and other times when we are pouring out praise to the one who has delivered us from a situation that we have been going through.  Many times it may be that we are confessing a wrong and asking forgiveness.  But somehow we know that we are speaking to an awesome, powerful, all knowing, loving and merciful God.  There is though more to prayer, it needs to be something that we do because we want to spend time with him and to get to know him better.  After all, it is a relationship.  Prayer needs to be a time when we want to hear from him and be with him.  That time should be spent with God just as we would in our human relationships that are important to us, and then some.  Because he is God and is worthy beyond all comprehension and desires time with us.  If we should neglect prayer, we miss out on developing a greater relationship with him.  Prayer now for me encompasses all aspects of my life, it has not always been so. I am more aware of his presence and who I am before him.

Take some time to reflect on prayer and consider the many ways in which it has changed for you through time.  If something strikes you as important share that with us. We all will benefit as a community.
